KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS


The key accomplishments of NAWIA can be measured through the successful implementation of SLISSLFAN, WAGOP and LINKAGES projects. Activities implemented included:-


A. SLISSFAN
1.Formation of 20 Village Savings and loans (VS&L) groups of 600 members and 27 functional Business Development associations(BDA)of 800 members.
2.Increased capacity of women VS&L group leaders to advocate for Agricultural credit from duty bearers.
3.Women leaders empowered for engaging government on agricultural credit issues.
4.Increased number of women VS&L group accessing agricultural loans from MFIs, government agencies and other organizations involved in supporting women Small Scale Farmers.
  


B. WAGOP
1Capacity Needs Assessment of Women Farmer  
     Leaders across Benue, Nasarawa and Plateau 
     States in North Central Nigeria.
2.  Sensitization on Women Leadership in Agriculture 
     Governance in North  Central Nigeria For Media 
     Executives.
3.  Roundtable Meeting to Identify Advocacy Issues 
     for Women in Agriculture.
4.  Capacity Building for Women Farmer Leaders on 
     Leadership,  Communication   and   Media   
     Engagement and Market Access.
5.   Advocacy Memos to Government Officials.
6.   Advocacy visit to parliament and Ministry of
      agriculture.  
7.   Round table meeting with Government officials.
8.   Consultative Forum with Agro-input suppliers.
9.   Press Release.
10. 10 Quarterly Media Briefing.
11. Support to 3 Journalist to Research and Publish 
      Stories on the challenges     of  small scale 
      women Farmers.
12.  Annual MEL and Review Meeting.





C. LINKAGES OF AGRICULTURAL COMMUNITIES AND AGRO-INDUSTRIES TO BOOST FOOD PRODUCTION

1. Sensidization of Rural Small Scale scale on the presence of Agro-processing industries which can utilize their produce and avoid waste.

2. Creating a forum and meeting point for Small Scale farmers and Agro-Industries to meet and discuss possibilities for growth.

3. Repositioning the mindset of the rural small scale farmers against the market system of middle men who act beteeen them and the Agro-processing industries but do not pay well.

4. Creation of enlightenment on possible levels of business engagements between the small scale rural farmers and Agro-processing industries.

5. Advocacy for unity among farmers and farmers associations to enable them have a strong hold on market issues and be a stake holder in the provision of policies and decision making on market and agriculture related issues like produce prices, inputs prices, supply/distribution and rates etc.
